Information for Laboratories

Clinical laboratories in the U.S. are facing some unique challenges today. Commoditization of routine testing, reduced reimbursements from carriers and governmental fiscal crises have created an unusual burden for most small and medium size clinical labs. As the downward price pressure increases, some laboratories find themselves offering money losing tests. It is apparent that Clinical Laboratories are in need to innovate and diversify.

However, as patient care becomes more preventative and personalized, clinical laboratories also have new and exciting opportunities. Leading physicians now look for tests that avoid therapy complications and predict treatment outcomes. Pharmacogenomics allows us to understand the drug-gene interactions and avoid adverse reactions that used to be considered unavoidable side effects just a few years ago. Foremost, FDA warnings have been issued that appear on drug labels for widely used medications such as anti-coagulants, chemotherapies and anti-retroviral drugs. As the entire healthcare industry is inevitably becoming more personalized, pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing creates a perfect opportunity for small and medium size laboratories to enter the clinical genotyping market.

Why build tests based on EntroGen assays? Our mission is to provide reagents to allow labs to leverage inexpensive standard equipment to begin offering testing with a minimal up-front cost as opposed to having to procure specialized test-specific equipment. We understand that laboratories often cannot predict test volumes for new tests and that the capital availability to develop such tests may be modest. Namely, we utilize standard PCR equipment with gel or capillary electrophoresis detection method or Real-Time PCR.
